Vlachides

Our visit to this charming village located southeast of Mt. Oros was a delightful journey into a place that stays true to its semi-nomadic roots. The village’s name comes from the Vlachs, semi-nomadic animal herders found throughout the Balkans, and this heritage is evident in the daily life and traditions of its inhabitants.

As we entered the village, we were greeted by the tranquil sight of grazing animals and olive groves, a testament to the village’s connection with the land and agriculture. Many locals are still involved in animal husbandry, and their expertise is reflected in the healthy livestock we saw during our visit. The olive cultivation is also a significant part of the village’s economy, with beautiful olive trees lining the surrounding areas, creating a peaceful and serene setting.
