Our visit to Anitsaio, a charming old settlement on the island of Aegina, was a breathtaking experience. At an altitude of 230 meters, this village offers a stunning view of the Saronic Gulf and the surrounding landscape, which has a distinct Cycladic appearance with its rocky terrain and bushy vegetation.
As we wandered through the few houses that make up Anitsaio, the serene atmosphere of the village was palpable. Olive trees and vineyards dot the area, providing a lush contrast to the rocky outcrops. One of the most striking features in the heart of the village is the old windmill, perched on a hill, hinting at the agricultural heritage of the former residents. This historical landmark not only adds to the village’s charm but also offers a glimpse into its past.
After exploring Anitsaio, we took the dirt road heading south towards Vlachides, a small settlement at around 250 meters in altitude. The road was rough but led us through beautiful landscapes and gave us a sense of adventure. From there, we followed a path leading to Sfentouri, enjoying the scenic beauty and tranquility of the area.
Overall, our visit to Anitsaio was a delightful escape from the bustling city life, allowing us to immerse ourselves in the rich history and natural beauty of the island. The combination of spectacular views, traditional architecture, and peaceful surroundings made this a memorable journey. If you’re seeking a quiet retreat with an authentic Greek village experience, Anitsaio is the perfect destination.
